Supporting Our Work
Supporting Our Work

For the past thirty years, JML has been sending Missionaries around the UK and to East and West African countries for out reaches. We have sent Missionaries to Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania. And we are prepared to go where ever God wants us to go and spread the message of the gospel of our risen Lord, Jesus Christ.
HOW TO SPONSOR A MISSIONARY DOING VOLUNTRY WORK IN AFRICA?
JML is a faith Ministry, in that we a totally dependence on God to meet all our needs. Philippians 4:19. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

1) When a Missionary goes to Africa with JML how is he or she financed?
Our Missionaries have always depended on God to meet their financial needs and so they work very hard and use their savings to sponsor their trips to Africa. In the past years God has moved in the hearts of a hand full of individuals who were led by the Holy Spirit to give love offering for the work of the gospel to go ahead. Romans 10: 14-15. How are they to hear without a preacher and how can they preach unless they are sent.
Every missionary is supported financially by churches, families, friends and other interested individuals or groups who contribute to JML the amount of money required to maintain Missionaries daily living expenses. Gifts may be of any amount and most JML missionaries are supported by the combined contributions of several fellowships and donors.

2) How much does JML need to maintain a missionary?
From January 2012, annual estimate are as follows:
Adults - £6,000+
Children - £3,000+

3) What does this sum provide?
It provides the missionary with a monthly sum allowance, food, medical and dental care, accommodation, return flight ticket, travel insurance, transportation and all additional expenses necessary to enable the missionary to serve God in Africa.

Donations are welcomed
4) Does this mean that if a missionary is fully supported financially on the Mission field?
It means that JML does not need additional funds to maintain Missionary personal expenses, other than the funds already raised by the individual. The items listed above are only the basic necessities for living. Once in Africa no additional gifts are required for the missionary’s personal maintenance, however, support funds alone will not meet expenses incurred in his or her ministry, so the Missionary effectiveness is increased if they also have funds available to meet extra expenses incurred whilst on the Mission field.

5) How can this monthly allowance cover so many expenses?
Any love offering given directly to JML Ministries to support missionaries, is put into a common pool then apportioned into specific pools to pay for additional expenses, the support allowance pool is divided each month among JML missionaries to meet any unexpected needs. Funds are also used to buy Bibles, Christian literatures, translation of written materials into local languages, employing translator, local guides, rent for outreach venues and transportation. Please note that this is separated for the funds raised by individual Missionaries which they themselves maintain and are responsible for.

6) Does every JML missionary have to be fully supported?
Before a missionary leaves UK or America for Africa they must have 100% of full support funds in place or a pledge or promised of 50% of the fund to be sent to the Missionary by the Church sending them to cover their expenses in their first year of service. This gives JML Ministries the assurance of sufficient funds, to care for the Missionary while on the Mission field, until they return home and back to their Churches to testify about the work that God has done.

7) How is it then that some missionaries are under-supported?
It sometimes happens that after a missionary has been in the Mission for a while, some of their promised support drops off. This may be due to the death of a contributor, reduced income or increased responsibilities. Also the required support figure may be increased while the missionary is in Africa due to inflation and rising costs of living.

8) How often is the support figure reviewed?
Annually on the first of January adjustment is related to the cost of living taking into consideration the living costs in African countries as well as overseas.

9. How much of the support goes to Missionaries each month as salary allowance?
It depends on the funds we receive each year. Funds are divided equally among our workers. If every Missionary was fully supported a full salary allowance would be paid each month. However, when the pool is less than full, the missionary receives only what we can afford to donate. All our Missionaries regardless of their job role or position received the same salary allowance. The actual amount is adjusted according to the cost of living in the country concerned.

10. Is it possible to give under covenant?
Yes, anyone who pays income tax may give a deed of covenant to JML Ministries. A specified sum each year for four years. This would enable the Mission to claim a refund from the Inland Revenue of the Tax paid on the gift and thus increase its value by almost 50%.

11) How often do supporters make their contributions?
To suit their convenience some contribute monthly or bimonthly, some quarterly, some annually. Arrangement may be made for regular gifts to be made by cash, through cheques, Bank standing order or direct debit into our African fund Trustee Bank account.

12) If I am interested in helping support a JML Missionary, how should I go about it?

Email or send us a letter with your gift explaining how you would like the money to be used. You may wish to contribute towards the support of a missionary you know. If not we will be glad to suggest a missionary as your partner, with whom you can correspond and pray.
The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest. (Luke 20:2).
